Schneider Electric has introduced Schneider Charge, a Level 2 residential EV charger featuring integrated load-management technology designed to accommodate installations where available household electrical capacity may be limited.

The charger uses Schneider Electric's SmartAmp technology to monitor household electrical demand and automatically adjust charging output as conditions change. According to the company, the system can allow Level 2 charging within a home's existing electrical capacity in some installations, potentially reducing the need for electrical service or panel upgrades.

Schneider Charge provides up to 11.5 kW/48A Level 2 charging and is available with either a J3400 North American Charging System (NACS) or J1772 connector.

Integrated Load Management

SmartAmp is integrated directly into the charger rather than relying on a separate gateway or monitoring device.

The system includes current transformers for monitoring household electrical loads and supports managed-load installations under UL 3141 where accepted by the local authority having jurisdiction.

"Electricians are looking for solutions that help keep projects moving while delivering the charging performance homeowners expect," said Shawn Bonacorsi, head of electrification solutions for Schneider Electric North America Operations. "Schneider Charge combines the trust electricians have in Square D with integrated SmartAmp technology that simplifies installation and helps contractors complete more charging projects with less complexity."

Schneider Charge is initially designed for hardwired residential installations. Schneider Electric plans to introduce a plug-in version in early 2027.

Installation Support Through Qmerit

Schneider Electric is also supporting Schneider Charge installations through Qmerit's EV charger installation network.

The arrangement allows homeowners to connect with electricians through Qmerit for charger recommendations and installation.

The residential charger joins Schneider Charge Pro, the company's commercial Level 2 charging product for applications including multifamily properties, workplaces, fleets and destination charging.

Schneider Charge and Schneider Charge Pro are available through Schneider Electric authorized distributors.
