The eighth-generation Lexus ES enters its second model year with the ES lineup's first battery-electric models. The 2027 ES 350e and ES 500e will be offered alongside the ES 350h hybrid.

All three models share a new multi-powertrain platform designed to accommodate hybrid and battery-electric configurations. The ES 350e uses a single electric motor and front-wheel drive, while the ES 500e uses front and rear electric motors with all-wheel drive. Both battery-electric models use a 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery.

Every 2027 ES also receives a 12.3-inch driver Multi-Information Display, a 14-inch touchscreen with the latest Lexus Interface infotainment system and Lexus Safety System+ 4.0. An Executive Package available on the ES 350e Luxury adds power-adjustable, heated and ventilated rear outboard seats, massage functionality and a passenger-side ottoman.

ES 350e and ES 500e Powertrains

The ES 350e is equipped with a 221-hp permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor powering the front wheels. Lexus estimates a 0-60 mph time of 7.4 seconds.

The ES 500e adds a 118-hp rear electric motor to the same 221-hp front motor, producing 338 combined horsepower. The model features Lexus' DIRECT4 all-wheel-drive system and has an estimated 0-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds.

The DIRECT4 system uses wheel speed, acceleration and steering-angle information to adjust front-to-rear torque distribution.

Up to 307 Miles of Range

The front-wheel-drive ES 350e has an EPA-estimated 307-mile range with its standard 19-inch wheels. Selecting the available 21-inch wheels reduces the EPA-estimated range to 292 miles.

The all-wheel-drive ES 500e has an EPA-estimated range of 276 miles with 19-inch wheels and 272 miles with the available 21-inch wheels.

NACS Charging Comes Standard

Both electric ES models are equipped with a NACS J3400 charge port and include a CCS-to-NACS adapter. Lexus said the combination provides compatibility with more than 76,000 Level 2 and Level 3 public charging stations nationwide.

An 11-kW onboard AC charger supports Level 2 charging in approximately seven hours under ideal conditions. DC fast charging from 10% to 80% takes approximately 28 minutes at charging rates of up to 150 kW, according to Lexus.

Battery preconditioning can be activated through the vehicle's touchscreen or automatically when a public charging station is entered as a destination through Cloud Navigation. A dual-voltage charging cable supporting Level 1 and Level 2 charging is also standard.

The ES 350e and ES 500e also support Plug & Charge, which allows drivers to initiate charging and payment at compatible public charging networks after completing an initial enrollment through the Lexus app. The feature requires an active Remote Connect trial or subscription.

Updated Interior and Technology

Compared with the previous-generation ES, the new model has a wheelbase that is 3.1 inches longer and adds 2.2 inches of width, 6.5 inches of overall length and 4.5 inches of height. Lexus reports increases in front and rear headroom, rear legroom and front-seat shoulder and hip room.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and a wireless device charger are standard on the ES 350e and ES 500e. Premium trims receive a 10-speaker Lexus audio system, while Luxury trims include a 17-speaker, 1,800-watt Mark Levinson system.

Luxury trims also offer Digital Key 2.0, allowing a compatible smartphone to lock, unlock and start the vehicle with an active Remote Connect trial or subscription.

Safety Technology

Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 is standard across the 2027 ES lineup. The system includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Road Sign Assist, Intelligent High Beams and Proactive Driving Assist.

Additional technology available on the battery-electric models includes Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Change Assist, Rear Pedestrian Detection and Front Cross-Traffic Alert, depending on trim.
