Lexus has updated the NX compact crossover for the 2027 model year, moving the U.S. lineup exclusively to hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The 2027 NX will be offered as the NX 350h hybrid and NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid, eliminating non-electrified powertrains from the lineup. Updates also include changes to the hybrid system, body structure, suspension, interior technology and driver-assistance features. A 14-inch Lexus Interface touchscreen is now standard across all grades.

NX 450h+ Gets Larger Battery and DC Fast Charging

Both powertrains use a new e-Axle assembly that integrates the transaxle, motor and power control unit into a more compact package. Lexus also added silicon carbide power semiconductors to the inverter as part of the updated drivetrain.

For the NX 450h+, Lexus developed a new lithium-ion battery that provides an 8% increase in output and a 30% increase in capacity. Plug-in hybrid models also add standard DC fast-charging capability for 2027.

The updated E-Four electronic all-wheel-drive system uses revised rear motor controls to provide continuous AWD operation during straight-line driving in addition to acceleration, cornering and low-traction conditions.

Chassis and Driving Updates

Lexus made several structural and suspension changes to the NX, including reinforcement at the front and rear of the unibody, a new floor cross member and additional reinforcement along the tunnel ridge. The suspension towers were also redesigned to increase rigidity.

The steering wheel diameter decreases by 0.4 inches to 14.2 inches, while a variable rack gear is now used across all grades. Lexus also updated the electric power steering, accelerator control and brake control systems.

Interior and Technology Updates

Inside, the NX pairs a 12.3-inch digital instrument display with a standard 14-inch touchscreen. Other changes include a redesigned steering wheel and updated interior controls.

Luxury and F SPORT grades are available with a new Sensory Concierge system, which coordinates interior lighting, audio, climate control, seat temperature and fragrance settings through three selectable modes.

The Lexus Interface system also adds a standard integrated Drive Recorder, which uses the vehicle's exterior cameras to record and save video clips associated with manual or triggered events. An available Digital Key allows compatible smart devices to be used for vehicle access and operation.

Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 Standard

All 2027 NX grades will come standard with Lexus Safety System+ 4.0. The suite includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Risk Avoidance Emergency Steer Assist, Intersection Turn Assist, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beams and Proactive Driving Assist.

Additional available technologies include Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Change Assist, Rear Pedestrian Detection and Front Cross-Traffic Alert.
