NAFA Fleet Management Association has named the City of Long Beach, California, the No. 1 Green Fleet of 2026 as part of its annual Green Fleet Awards.

The awards recognize government and commercial fleets across North America for their sustainability initiatives and fleet operations.

In addition to the top-ranked fleet, NAFA presented six special recognitions:

• Best Green Garage Practices: Salt River Project, Arizona
• Best Green Garage Facilities: Santa Clara County, California
• Best Alternative Fuel Integration: District of Columbia Department of Public Works
• Best Fleet Internal Green Culture: City of Chesapeake, Virginia
• Best Problem-Solving Fleet: Harris County, Texas
• Best Technology Leadership Initiatives: City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida

"The 2026 Green Fleet Award winners demonstrate that there are many ways to make meaningful progress toward more sustainable fleet operations," said Bill Schankel, CAE, CEO of NAFA. "From alternative fuels and new technologies to facilities, workplace culture and creative problem-solving, these fleets are putting ideas into action."

The awards were presented Aug. 25 at the Sustainable Fleet Technology Conference & Expo 2026 in Durham, North Carolina.

How Green Fleets Are Evaluated

NAFA's Green Fleet Awards are open to government and commercial fleets. Applicants are evaluated across criteria including fleet composition, fuel and emissions, sustainability accomplishments, outreach, policies and planning, fuel-saving technologies, and executive and employee engagement.

NAFA will also host a 2026 Green Fleet Awards Webinar Series on Oct. 30 and Nov. 6. The webinars will feature this year's winners discussing their fleet sustainability initiatives and strategies.
