ChargePoint and LG Collaborate on North American EV Charging Expansion

This collaboration enables LG hardware to be powered by ChargePoint software, which would be the first of many partnerships.

ChargePoint is expanding its North American electric vehicle (EV) charging software offering to manage hardware of other makes and models beginning with LG chargers.

As a first commercial offering within this approach, ChargePoint revealed a strategic partnership with LG to develop commercial charging solutions. ChargePoint expects the LG commercial charging solution to be available for sale in its third fiscal quarter of 2024.

Commercial fleet customers will be able to operate the LG hardware of their choice with ChargePoint’s software, a modular platform built for growing charging needs.

“ChargePoint remains focused on delivering integrated, networked charging solutions that enable a seamless charging experience for drivers and site hosts,” Rich Mohr, SVP, Americas at ChargePoint, said. “By partnering with additional charging hardware manufacturers, we enable more customers to use the ChargePoint software platform to power their EV charging programs, delivering a world-class driver experience.”

Although ChargePoint has offered its services since 2007, this collaboration enables more flexibility for new and existing customers as they build and scale their EV charging programs.

Hardware Compatibility Allows Partnerships Beyond LG

Customers can choose to deploy bundled hardware and software from ChargePoint or hardware from a third-party manufacturer to be managed by their existing ChargePoint software.

Hardware manufacturers can also partner with the company to offer “ChargePoint Ready” hardware, stations that are pre-configured to operate on the ChargePoint platform and are sold with a full suite of support services available.

Additionally, hardware manufacturers can work with ChargePoint to test and certify their existing stations as ChargePoint compatible. With ChargePoint software, station owners can purchase network integration kits to connect and manage their charging program.
