Stellantis To Build Smaller, Affordable EVs For European Market
Stellantis aims to expand access to urban EV mobility in Europe and address the decline in the smaller-vehicle segment.

Stellantis is moving forward with its new “E-Car” project, aiming to bring affordable small electric vehicles back to the European market with production planned in Italy by 2028.

Stellantis announced plans on May 19 to launch a new small electric vehicle project, with production expected to begin in 2028.
The automaker said the new “E-Car” project is focused on developing affordable battery-electric vehicles for the European market. Stellantis said the “E” represents European, Emotion, Electric, and Environmental friendliness.
The European Commission has recognized the project for its potential to support European manufacturing and increase adoption of electric vehicles among mobile urban dwellers.
Focus on Small, Affordable Electric Vehicles
Stellantis said the E-Car is intended to address the decline of the small affordable vehicle segment in Europe in recent years.
“The E-Car is a concept that finds its natural match in the small car success that runs deep in our European Stellantis DNA,” Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa said in a May 19 news release. “Our customers are calling for a revival of small, stylish vehicles, proudly produced in Europe, which are also affordable and environmentally friendly.”
Production is expected to begin at Stellantis’ Pomigliano plant in Italy.
Production Planned at Pomigliano Plant
The Pomigliano facility has a long history of producing small European vehicles, including the Fiat Panda.
The new EV models will feature battery-electric technology developed with selected partners as part of an effort to improve affordability and accelerate development timelines.
