Plug, Recurrent Partnership Expands Fleet Access to Consumer-Sourced Used EVs

The new arrangement opens a streamlined resale and sourcing channel for fleets, providing faster EV remarketing and access to battery-verified inventory.

Plug, an online wholesale auction platform built for used electric vehicles, has been named the exclusive wholesale partner for Recurrent’s “Sell with Recurrent” program. Through this partnership, electric fleet operators now have expanded access to consumer-sourced EV inventory and faster turnaround for end-of-life vehicle resale.

Fast Resale Path for Aging Fleet Assets

The integration allows private EV sellers using Recurrent’s platform to receive an offer in under an hour. Plug then acquires the vehicle and relists it for dealers and fleet buyers via its wholesale auction. For fleet managers, the model provides a more transparent, data-rich pipeline for sourcing and replacing vehicles based on verified battery condition, software features, and charging capabilities.

“Recurrent customers want to sell their EVs quickly with an offer from a buyer who understands EVs,” said Scott Case, CEO and co-founder of Recurrent, in a July 15 news release. “Integrating Plug provides fast, consistent pricing to our customers, supported by a network of EV-specialist dealers.”

EV-Specific Data Enhances Fleet Sourcing and Remarketing

Plug’s evaluation process uses VIN-level data with additional inputs specific to EV performance — including battery state of health, over-the-air updates, federal tax credit eligibility, and compatibility with charging infrastructure. These insights are crucial for fleet operators evaluating the total cost of ownership and determining optimal resale timing.

“This partnership broadens access to EV inventory for our dealer network,” said Jimmy Douglas, founder and CEO of Plug. “For fleets, that means access to pre-owned vehicles with verifiable performance history, simplifying acquisition decisions and risk assessment.”

Plug relists vehicles sold by Recurrent users with full battery history reports and clear inventory tags, giving remarketers and procurement teams insight into residual value based on more than just odometer readings. The integration offers fleets offloading EVs a structured resale path with shorter time-to-liquidation and higher pricing transparency.

Scalable Channel for EV Lifecycle Management

Plug has processed over $20 million in used EV sales since its launch in 2023. Its network of nearly 500 dealers and consignors continues to grow, and most listed vehicles receive market-aligned offers within 24 hours. In many cases, the company manages the logistics to move the vehicle directly from the seller to the buyer, removing steps that traditionally slow down remarketing for fleets.

“When fleets or dealers can evaluate battery-specific value factors upfront, they can align bids with market conditions more confidently,” Douglas added. “It’s why we’ve been able to offer competitive pricing on Recurrent-sourced trade-ins.”

The Plug-Recurrent model provides a reliable wholesale channel backed by transparent battery analytics for electric fleets scaling down aging assets or replenishing regional units.
