The Electric Utility Fleet Managers Conference (EUFMC) Board of Directors has announced it will cancel the 2020 show in light of COVID-19.

“In light of today’s extraordinary circumstances it was determined that the health and safety of our attendees was of paramount concern,” the statement said. “We greatly appreciate your willingness to participate in the conference, your support of EUFMC, and your understanding.”

The EUFMC began in 1953 as a regional meeting of electric utility fleet managers and has evolved into an educational conference and equipment show for fleet representatives from investor-owned utilities, electric cooperatives, and electrical contractors. It is held annually in Williamsburg, Va. The 2020 show was scheduled for May 31-June 3.

Attendance at the 2019 show included 128 utility fleet representatives from nearly 70 investor-owned electric utilities, electric cooperatives, and electrical contractors, including about 30 first-time attendees.

The show plans to return in 2021.

The spread of COVID-19 has greatly affected the work truck industry. Last week, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued a national emergency declaration to provide hours-of-service regulatory relief to commercial vehicle drivers transporting emergency relief in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Amazon announce it would hire 100,000 more people and is temporarily prioritizing household staples, medical supplies, and other products in high demand due to COVID-19.
