Hyundai plans to begin production of its Kona Electric compact crossover at its Czech manufacturing plant in March 2020 in order to reduce delivery times for its customers in Europe.

The current European supply of Kona Electric vehicles originates from Hyundai’s Ulsan plant in South Korea, but the plant’s production rate has not been able to meet demand, according to Hyundai.

The increased production capacity that the Czech plant will add is intended to keep up with rising demand.

In 2020 Hyundai plans to provide over 80,000 units of zero-emission vehicles to European customers, including the Kona Electric, IONIQ Electric, and the NEXO fuel cell car.

If the company meets this unit amount, it expects to become the biggest provider of zero-emission vehicles in Europe in 2020.
