EV Suppliers Boost Nationwide Travel EV Charging Network

GM, EVgo, and Pilot will install hundreds of public fast charging stalls at Pilot and Flying J travel centers in nearly 40 states.

Pilot Company, General Motors (GM), and EVgo have expanded their joint EV fast-charging network to more than 200 locations across nearly 40 states.

The collaboration has deployed nearly 850 fast-charging stalls in just over two years, improving access to public charging infrastructure along key travel corridors across the U.S.

The network, built to support drivers traveling long distances, continues to grow toward its goal of 2,000 fast-charging stalls across 500 Pilot and Flying J travel centers nationwide.

Expanding Access to Rural and Interstate Routes

In under a year, the network has grown from 25 to nearly 40 states, bringing coverage to regions with limited EV infrastructure. According to the Department of Energy, only 45% of rural counties had even one fast charger at the start of 2025. New installations are now available in states including Colorado, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming, with significant expansion across Texas, Missouri, and Florida.

“Pilot is here to fuel the journeys of all drivers,” said Shannon Sturgil, senior vice president of alternative fuels at Pilot Company. “Our collaboration with GM and EVgo continues to expand highway charging in areas where this infrastructure is most needed to enable coast-to-coast EV travel.”

Designed for Convenience and Reliability

The network features EVgo’s 350kW fast chargers, capable of quickly adding significant range to most modern EVs. Pilot and Flying J locations offer amenities such as Wi-Fi, on-site dining, and convenience items. Many sites also feature overhead canopies for weather protection and pull-through stalls to accommodate trailers and electric vans.

Plug and Charge capability is available for compatible vehicles, allowing drivers to automatically initiate and pay for charging sessions simply by plugging in.

“Hitting the open road is part of American culture, and traveling by car means freedom to stop and charge when and where drivers want,” said Badar Khan, CEO of EVgo. “This network is helping deliver reliable charging to communities large and small.”

Building a Nationwide Charging Corridor

The Pilot–GM–EVgo collaboration focuses on interstate corridors that carry more than 20% of total U.S. traffic. The initiative aims to make long-distance EV travel more practical and convenient by addressing critical infrastructure gaps along heavily used routes.

“With over a dozen electric vehicles across Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac, GM is giving customers the right vehicle for every type of journey,” said Wade Sheffer, vice president of GM Energy. “Through this collaboration, we’re helping ensure that charging access supports every EV driver’s travel needs.”

Collaboration Timeline and Future Goals

The companies first announced their partnership in 2022, and the latest milestone — reaching 200 locations— was announced in October 2025. Together, Pilot, GM, and EVgo are nearly halfway toward their goal of 2,000 fast-charging stalls nationwide. By the end of 2025, they expect to reach 1,000 stalls across 40 states.

Looking Ahead

The partnership represents one of the largest private-sector efforts to expand EV charging infrastructure in the U.S. The companies continue to coordinate with federal and state programs to support the nation’s broader electrification and transportation goals.
