London’s world-famous red double-decker buses are getting a quiet, green boost thanks to one of Europe’s largest and most advanced electric vehicle charging networks, ensuring travelers and locals alike can explore the city with lower emissions and smoother rides.
Go-Ahead Group, a zero-emission transportation company, is rolling out BetterFleet’s advanced EV fleet charge management platform across its national fleet, which includes more than 1,000 electric buses and chargers in operation across 20 UK depots. By the end of 2025, this will expand to over 1,500 units across 30 depots, making it one of the largest deployments of advanced charge management software for electric buses anywhere in the world.

Behind the scenes, BetterFleet’s platform helps depot operators manage vehicle readiness by providing real-time operational insights, automating charging schedules and using intelligent load deferral to prevent costly infrastructure upgrades. The platform also brings intelligent incident management to streamline maintenance while extending the lifespan of existing chargers, reducing downtime and ensuring buses are ready to meet daily service needs.
Matt Carney, CEO of Go-Ahead Bus, said in a June 30 news release: “By using BetterFleet, we have live data to track and manage our zero-emission fleet’s charging status and energy use, helping us reduce our impact on the grid while keeping London moving.”
Daniel Hilson, CEO of BetterFleet, added, “Our real-time monitoring, automated scheduling, and AI-driven predictive analytics help ensure electric buses are ready to meet service, reducing costs while supporting sustainable travel.”
As more fleets transition to EVs, those that embed telematics deeply into their workflows will expand deployments with fewer surprises and more predictable economics.
At NAFA I&E 2026, WEX debuted an EV solution that adds a layer of verification to help fleets track, validate, and trust every at-home charging dollar.
EV Realty opens a 76-port, 9 MW truck charging hub in San Bernardino, designed to support more than 200 medium- and heavy-duty vehicles per day with CCS and MCS capability.
ChargePoint deployed more than 90 EV charging ports, adding new Level 2 infrastructure and management tools to support public and employee access to charging in Southern California.
Off-grid charging assets have proven to be much more than stopgaps. Fleets can use those tools to hedge against grid delays, capacity bottlenecks, and other uncertainties.
