ChargePoint has deployed more than 90 EV charging ports for the South Coast Air Quality Management District (South Coast AQMD), which oversees air quality in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.
The installations provide charging access for employees and the public.
The project replaced older equipment with 55 new Level 2 charging units capable of serving up to 94 vehicles simultaneously. The deployment includes ChargePoint CP6000 stations, which offer faster charging than typical Level 2 units and support multiple connector types through the Omni Port system.
Charging Management and User Features
All stations are managed through the ChargePoint platform, which provides real-time monitoring, performance tracking, and remote management. Features include station diagnostics, usage visibility, and software updates.
The system also includes a mobile app-based waitlist that allows users to join a queue and receive notifications when a charger becomes available.
Accessibility and Emissions Context
Charging sites include ADA-compliant spacing, signage, and placement to support accessibility. Station locations and availability can be accessed through the ChargePoint mobile app.
Expanding charging access helps address infrastructure gaps tied to EV adoption, said the South Coast AQMD in an April 1 news release announcing the chargers.
The transportation sector accounts for about 40% of California’s greenhouse gas emissions, with light-duty vehicles representing 25% to 30% statewide.
