The model receives a power boost and a new name.

The 2026 BMW i4 eDrive40 uses the same SiC inverters previously announced for the i5 range.

This means an expected range of 300 miles on a full charge, whether they choose 18-inch or 19-inch wheels.
The improvement in range comes from using silicon carbide (SiC) parts in the power electronics (SiC inverters). SiC inverters make energy transfer from the high-voltage battery to the electric motors more efficient. These SiC components are more powerful and heat-resistant than traditional silicon semiconductors.

The top of the i4 range receives efficiency improvements from SiC inverters, along with increased power.

The model accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds.

The 2026 model features equipment for the i4 range, including the Seal & Drive Tire Kit as standard, and the addition of the Drive Recorder to the Parking Assistant Professional package.

Black mirror caps and M Sport brakes with blue calipers are now part of the Shadowline package on i4 eDrive40 and xDrive40, as well as standalone options. Glass Controls are now optionally available on all i4 models.

BMW reports that its U.S. operations employ over 120,000 people, generating more than $43.3 billion annually for the U.S. economy.
