Performing an Electric Vehicle Suitability Assessment

An electric vehicle suitability assessment (EVSA) develops a use case for EV adoption that makes sense for your operation. EVSAs are based on real-world driving profiles and can answer many identified questions in advance. The assessment should consider the following questions:

Are electric vehicle (EV) equivalents to your current vehicles available? How accessible are those EV equivalents?
What is the daily mileage of each vehicle in your fleet?
What are the payload levels for each vehicle throughout the day?
Where do vehicles dwell, and for how long at each location?
Where does most travel take place? (Over the road or urban areas?)
Is there an adequate power supply at your workplace or on the routes?
Do you have room to install on-site power generation, such as a generator?
An EVSA also can help you select the right vehicle for your application. There is a significant divide between fleets going electric with passenger cars and those fleeting vans, box trucks, vocational trucks, and over-the-road trucking applications.
There are many electric vehicle considerations when it comes time to selection, charging applications, and more. For example, the Chevy Bolt is one of the most cost-efficient EVs and is easily accessible on the market. However, a Class 6 truck is currently unavailable on the market. It will be much more expensive with potential infrastructure issues when it is released.
Vehicle selection is crucial for your fleet. By switching to electrification, your company needs to ensure the EV switch will operate at the same level as your gasoline-only model. Going the extra mile in researching different electrical fleets can help your company decide on the proper vehicles for your application.
By thoroughly reviewing these questions, assessments, and understanding vehicle selection, you can successfully understand how cost-effective EVs will be in your fleet management operations. Know now before you implement.
