At the virtual TechAdvantage Experience, held in late February through early March, Terex Utilities shared new technologies that support electric cooperatives’ best practices.
The Z-45 Substation Utility Boom (SUB) is built for substation work and other applications where an insulated device is needed, but where traditional bucket trucks won’t work. The Z-45 SUB with maximum platform height of 45’6” and horizontal reach of 24’9”, is a mobile elevated work platform featuring a fiberglass jib section and fiberglass platform. Providing superior maneuverability, it has zero tail-swing and 355-degree rotation in tight quarters. Self-propelled control and up-and-over capability increase its flexibility.
The company also shared a new Hi-Ranger TL48 articulated and telescopic aerial device optimized for the new super duty chassis such as the Ford F600, International CV, and Chevy 6500 chassis. The 53 ft. working height unit has jib capacity balanced with strong payload capacities to meet the needs of trouble truck applications.
The newest addition to the HyPower hybrid solutions is the Viatec SmartPTO for Hi-Ranger aerial devices and commander and general digger derricks. This product reduces idling, increases fuel savings, and minimizes noise and air pollution by utilizing stored plug in electric power to operate the equipment. The SmartPTO significantly lowers the cost of engine related expenses by reducing fuel costs and wear and tear on the engine due to idling. Overall troubleshooting and repair costs are also reduced thanks to the on-board diagnostics and telematics capabilities. The system is maintenance free due to the brushless permanent magnet motor, Lithium NMC batteries, and absence of internal service parts.
The Terex positive attachment lanyard warning device, or “PAL in the Bucket” is becoming a preferred option on Terex Hi-Ranger LT40 and XT Pro aerial device models. Introduced in 2017, PAL provides audio and visual warnings when controls are engaged and the lanyard has not been attached to the lanyard anchor in the bucket. The system is designed to reduce the chance of an operator elevating the bucket without a lanyard attached.
