FreeWire Technologies announced a collaboration with GM Energy to accelerate the deployment of ultrafast EV charging infrastructure for GM Envolve fleet and commercial customers in the United States.

This effort will help support GM Energy by providing a streamlined and flexible EV charging solution.

FreeWire's Boost Charger is an EV charging system that can be deployed without the need for expensive construction or electrical upgrades.

What the Agreement Means for GM Envolve Commercial Customers

This agreement will allow GM Envolve to offer commercial customers an energy transition package that includes both vehicles and a charging solution that fits their specific needs.

By offering a solution for both transportation and charging needs, GM Energy and FreeWire are helping to accelerate access to charging for fleet electrification, while also lowering the barriers to greater EV adoption overall.

“We applaud the work that GM Energy is doing to drive the national energy transition and provide holistic solutions to their customers,” said Arcady Sosinov, CEO/founder at FreeWire. “This collaboration between FreeWire and GM Energy will provide customers with a comprehensive electrification solution that helps them efficiently transition to a more sustainable future."

GM Energy will begin offering charging solutions from FreeWire in early 2024.

Origins of GM Energy, GM Envolve

GM Energy's collaboration with FreeWire shows how far the business unit has come since it was first launched.

In October 2022, GM introduced Ultium Commercial, which in combination with the existing Ultium Charge 360, creates a holistic ecosystem of energy management products and services housed under a new business unit called GM Energy.

GM then created GM Envolve, a new unit for commercial and fleet customers that creates a "one-stop" experience for vehicle sales and access to GM’s portfolio of commercial products and services across multiple divisions, in May 2023.

Shortly after, GM Energy announced in July 2023 that GM electric vehicle users will be able to access more vehicle-to-home (V2H) energy supply options when their EVs can plug into a home's electrical system.

GM announced in early August that it will expand vehicle-to-home (V2H) bidirectional charging technology across its retail portfolio of Ultium-based electric vehicles by model year 2026.

This expansion built on the company’s plan to deliver a growing suite of energy management products and services through GM Energy.
