The fleet market saw a divergence between 2014 and 2018 with petroleum being the No. 1 fuel preference until 2017 when diesel led the way, reports Dataforce. In 2018, diesel accounted for a 52.7% share, or a little under 180,000 vehicles, which was up from 138,000 in 2014.

Also, when comparing the market segments, hybrids were strongest for fleets, taking a 2.3% share of the channel for 2018, which was equal to 49.2% of all hybrid vehicles for 2018.

Meanwhile, short-term rentals have also seen changes with regards to fuel type mix, reports Dataforce. Petroleum has been the prefered choice in the segments, but diesel has also showed strengths, moving from 7.2% in 2014 to 15.8% in 2018.
