The Ford E-Transit commercial van is now shipping across the U.S., according to a statement by Ford Pro on Feb. 8.

The all-new E-Transit is shipping from Ford’s Kansas City Assembly Plant, Ford’s first U.S. plant to assemble both batteries and all-electric vehicles in-house.

Ford said in the release it “is working on ways to increase production.” A Ford spokesperson declined to elaborate further in an email exchange but confirmed that order banks for E-Transit are still open.

Ford has stated it will have global capacity to produce 600,000 battery electric vehicles annually by late 2023. This includes 200,000-plus Mustang Mach-E SUVs and 150,000 F-150 Lightning trucks. The E-Transit has more than 10,000 orders from over 300 fleet and commercial customers, including small vocational operations, municipalities, and large fleets such as Walmart.

“E-Transit is a testament to the fact that an electric commercial fleet is no longer a vision of tomorrow, but a productivity-boosting modern reality,” said Kumar Galhotra, president of The Americas & International Markets Group, Ford Motor Company, in the statement.

Following E-Transit, the F-150 Lightning arrives this spring.

Order banks for F-150 Lightning are closed. This reservation system, which included retail buyers, was closed on Dec. 8 and was capped at 200,000. Additional reservation holders will be invited in phases to place their order over the next few months, according to Ford Pro.
