After two years of planning and construction, Zeem Solutions officially opened its EV charging depot next to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Feb. 8, 2024.
The Inglewood, California, facility has been operational through the ongoing planning and construction phases, with the complete utility and infrastructure buildout completed as of last month.
Combined with a second depot two blocks away, the two sites have 78 DC fast chargers and 53 Level 2 ports. Both sites pull a total of 10 megawatts of electric power. They can complete up to 1,000 commercial vehicle charging sessions per day of rental car and ride-share vehicles, airport shuttles, cargo vans, and Class 8 trucks.
The facility has a new customer lounge and can accommodate 160 vehicles overnight.
Local elected officials, fleet customers, business leaders, and community members were on hand for the ceremony, which included a ceremonial ribbon cutting by Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts.
Butts was flanked by Chanel Parson, director of electrification for Southern California Edison, Marco Gatti, managing partner Arclight Capital Partners, who funded the project, and Paul Gioupis, cofounder and CEO of Zeem Solutions.
In his remarks at the podium, Gioupis thanked the numerous organizations that helped to bring the project to fruition.
“If you’ve been reading the headlines, you would think the EV industry was about to implode. Take a look behind me,” he said, gesturing to the chargers and trucks at the completed facility. Do you think that’s true? We’re just getting started.”
The LAX depot is the first in a series that Zeem plans to build nationwide.
Zeem Solution’s As-a-Service Model
Zeem Solutions offers EV charging infrastructure and fleet management services to commercial fleets, calling itself a Transportation-as-a-Service or E-Fleet-as-a-Service provider.
The company owns and maintains electric trucks, vans, shuttle buses and other EVs that are then leased to fleets that pay monthly to use the vehicles.
Customers get access to the vehicles, plus the ability to charge and park.
