Background News: Global Businesses Commit to 5.5 Million EVs
Global Companies Boost EVs by 93% Since Last Year
127 companies and counting now deploy 400,000-plus electric vehicles across 100 markets worldwide.

The speed at which businesses are transitioning their fleets from petrol and diesel to electric clearly indicates strong demand for affordable EVs supported by comprehensive, reliable charging networks.

Leading businesses are already operating over 400,000 electric vehicles (EVs) across the globe as part of Climate Group’s EV100 initiative, a new report released Feb. 20 reveals.
Total reported EVs put on the road by EV100 members jumped 93% in the last 12 months. By 2030, EV100 businesses will collectively transition over 5.75 million vehicles to electric as part of their commitment to making electric transport the new normal.
The just-released Progress and Insights Report also shows the EV100 network has already rolled out over 30,000 individual charging units across 72 markets worldwide, with commitments to install infrastructure at over 6,000 sites globally by the end of the decade.
The speed at which businesses are transitioning their fleets from petrol and diesel to electric clearly indicates strong demand for affordable EVs supported by comprehensive, reliable charging networks.
Support from policymakers, through clear phase-out dates for petrol and diesel vehicles, and implementing measures such as zero emission vehicle (ZEV) mandates and CO2 standards, will help businesses to invest with more clarity and confidence in EVs as the future of road transport, Climate Group said.
“In the fifth year of EV100, it’s fantastic to see how much we have grown together,” said Sandra Roling, Director of Transport of Climate Group. “It’s not just about committing to transition to EVs, it’s making it happen. Our members are taking action today to take polluting petrol and diesel vehicles off the road. It’s great, too, to see them roll-out charging stations at their premises and invest in the wider infrastructure that will make electric road transport the new reality for all.”
Now in its fifth year, EV100 has grown from an initial group of 10 businesses in 2017 to a group of 127 EV pioneers spanning 100 global markets, who are pursuing all-electric fleets by 2030.
In a further vote of confidence in zero-emission road transport, Climate Group recently announced a new EV100+ commitment focused on medium- and heavy-duty vehicles larger than 7.5 tons. Its five launch members alone will together transition over 90,000 vehicles to zero emission by 2040 in OECD markets, China and India.
