A local Maryland gas station has transitioned to exclusively electric in Montgomery County, Maryland, making it the first gas-to-electric vehicle service station in the U.S.
The charging station conversion was jointly funded by the Electric Vehicle Institute and the Maryland Energy Administration, with a grant total of $786,000.
The station will feature four dispensers that connect to a high-powered 200-kW system. Four vehicles will be able to charge simultaneously and reach 80% battery in 20 to 30 minutes. Waiting drivers will have access to an automated convenience store where they can track their vehicles charging progress.
The R.S. Automotive service station is in Takoma Park, Maryland along the Maryland and Washington D.C. border. The charging station also offers a certified repair facility. The charging service station officially opened, Sept. 26.
