The purchase is supported by FTA funds and begins conversion of the current Unitrans fleet, comprised of CNG buses, to zero-emission as existing vehicles reach end of life.
A total of 49 projects in 46 states and territories will receive funding through the program.
The delay is due to a range of factors, including complications in the installation of signal systems, unforeseen conditions under Caltrain’s tracks, and the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted supply chains necessary to the project.
Priority will be given to projects that help improve air quality and support environmental justice.

Under FTA’s TVIDC program, CTE formed the panel to address transit bus testing and research topics related to zero-emission bus development and adoption.
The $3.995-million project will improve the customer experience and the safety of riders with bus shelters, a bikeshare station, and innovative sustainability features.
The pilot project was made possible thanks to a public-private partnership with MidAmerican Energy who signed on to provide the local match for DART’s Low or No-Emission grant application with the FTA.
