Renderings Show Updated Car Rental Counters at Long Beach Airport

Legal/LegislativePhotos 8August 29, 2018

Travelers flying into the Long Beach (Calif.) Airport can expect major changes in the future, as the airport enters into its second phase of renovations. Car rental companies will be benefiting from these renovations, as all car rental counters will be consolidated into the historic terminal building at the heart of the airport complex.

Currently, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, and National/Alamo, operate at the airport, which completed its first stage of renovations in 2012. The $58.8 million-Phase II Terminal Area Improvements Project was awarded to Swinterton Builders in May.

In addition to the relocation and renovations surrounding car rental operations, the airport will be adding new ticketing counters, consolidating baggage claim, opening new concessions stands, and creating a central ground transportation area, among other improvements.

Relocating the car rental counters to the historic terminal building is expected to be completed in 2020, and the consolidated rental car storage and ready-return surface lot is expected to be completed in 2021.

Operating since 1924, the 1,600-acre Long Beach Airport saw close to 4 million travelers in 2017.
