Lightning Systems' Lightning Day Event

Lightning Systems hosted its Lightning Day event at the Wondries Fleet Group dealership in Alhambra, Calif., which provided local fleet professionals with an opportunity to test some of the company’s products and featured presentations on how EVs can be incorporated into a fleet’s portfolio. Photos by Andy Lundin.

The Ford Transit 350HD Caro Van has a 61 MPGe/EPA City and 66 MPGe/EPA Highway rating, and is available with a payload of 3,700 lbs. when powered by the the 43kWh battery and 2,900 lbs. for the 86 kWh battery.

Michael Johnson, technical account manager for Lightning Systems, gave a presentation on what it takes to maintain EVs in a fleets operation.

An AF editor test drives the Ford Transit 350HD Passenger Van, which has a maximum speed of 65 mph, with peak power at 215 hp and a torque rating of 733 lb.-ft. The powertrain supports full regenerative braking, that adds range while reducing wear and tear on the friction brakes.

Lightning Systems also had its battery-electric Chevrolet 6500XD Low Cab Forward available to test drive. The truck has a max speed of 65 mph and has peak power of 295 hp. It’s available with four battery capacity types; the base battery of 96 kWh is available with a 1.75 hour charge on DC fast charge and, on the higher end, the 192 kWh battery offers a 3.5 hour charge on DC fast charge.

The LightningElectric Ford Transit 350HD Passenger Van is available in 60-mile and 120-mile range versions and supports both Level 2 AC charging and DC Fast Charge. The Ford Transit 350HD is also available as a cargo van.

The battery-electric Ford E-450 Shuttle Bus was at the Alhambra event, and is available in 80-mile and 120-mile range versions. It has a GVWR of 14,500 lbs. and supports both Level 2 AC charging and DC Fast Charge.
