A new soy-based fifth-wheel grease comes in easy-to-apply “pads.” To apply, you simply place the grease pads on the fifth wheel, one on each side, or on bare patches as needed. The action of coupling to a trailer will do the rest.

Gear Head Lube, an Iowa-based company that specializes in soy-based lubricants, announced the new grease pads are available online, with wholesale distribution channels developing soon.

“There is no cleanup, no waste, and it eliminates the need for grease guns,” said Todd Whiting, director of product development, in a news release. Because the pads don’t require plastic packaging, it means no litter, unlike traditional fifth wheel lube packets.

Founded in 2019, Gear Head Lube has been developing and testing soy-based lubricants to serve in a wide variety of applications.

“This revolutionary new product will provide trucking companies, fleet managers, drivers, and owner-operators a convenient product and will contribute to a trucking company’s ESG goals,” Gear Head Lube said in a news release, referring to the increasing adoption of environmental, social, and corporate governance goals and reports. “The new soy-based grease pads will allow trucking companies to move toward a more sustainable and green operation without sacrificing performance, increasing cost, or making a negative impact on the environment.”
