Volkswagen announced April 2 that the 2021 ID.4 EV is now part of the “Building an Electric Future” exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. The multimedia exhibit, which opened to the public in November 2019, celebrates Volkswagen’s rich and impactful history, both globally and locally, and showcases the design and construction of the vehicles of tomorrow.

“’Building an Electric Future’ gives a behind the scenes look at making the new age of electric and autonomous mobility happen,” said Klaus Zyciora, Head of Design, Volkswagen Group. “It shows varying perspectives from the point of view of the designer, the manufacturer, and the consumer.”

The exhibit consists of five rooms showcasing how Volkswagen’s modular electric drive matrix, or MEB platform, was engineered, the variety of models that will be built, the uniquely flexible nature of the platform and how the vehicles will be assembled. Through the incorporation of multimedia features in each room, visitors have a variety of engaging ways to visualize new challenges faced by modern automakers and explore what driving will look like in the future. The final room of the exhibit will now include the Volkswagen ID.4 and give visitors an inside look at the company’s first all-electric SUV.

“The ’Building an Electric Future’ exhibit is a prime example of the future of mobility through the eyes of the world’s largest automobile manufacturer,” said Petersen Executive Director Terry L. Karges. “We are proud to present this exhibit with Volkswagen and ignite a conversation about the impact of an electrified future. We hope it inspires museum guests to think critically about the cars of tomorrow and the challenges manufacturers are facing to design them.”

“Building an Electric Future” is the feature installation under the “Driving Toward Tomorrow” series of exhibits at the Petersen. The series addresses the automobile industry’s current work on the future of transportation design and displays actual concept vehicles being developed by a global selection of automobile manufacturers.
