The government of Quebec announced last week that it will ban the sale of new gasoline vehicles beginning in 2035, Reuters reports.

The Canadian province's ban is part of a $6.7 billion Canadian dollar ($5.1 billion) plan to help reduce greenhouse gases by 37.5% by 2030.

The decision brings Quebec in line with states such as California that will ban the sale of new gasoline vehicles in 2035. The province of British Columbia has also decided to phase out the sale of gasoline powered vehicles over the next 20 years, with a total ban beginning in 2040. Furthermore, the U.K. has announced similar measures.
